ARCUS came about a long, long time ago, just as an idea at first and later became a reality. Today with over 20 years of experience, ARCUS is all about beautifully crafted wooden spearguns to last a lifetime.

All guns are manufactured using 3-5 laminates of Burmese teak depending on the size and volume of each gun. Different types of special epoxy adhesives are used and all pieces are pressed together under an industrial grade hot press. The shape and overall geometry of every model is designed in such a way as to increase mass where it’s needed the most so as to avoid any distortions or flexing while at the same time keeping the overall volume to a bare minimum. The result is a design with the least amount of recoil, a very clear line of sight and excellent agility and manoeuvrability under deep water. All metal components are of high quality marine grade stainless steel. The trigger is of the inverted type (reverse mechanism) and especially designed to handle very large loads with the added advantage of increasing the power bands loading length. And unlike the majority of the world market, our roller guns don't use ball bearings but have specially designed rollers with teflon inserts that are nearly frictionless under water, very long lasting and highly resistant to ware from debris (such as sand).

With regards to the main body, there are a number of things that can be tailored to specific needs. For instance, the ergonomic handle can be ordered either for left or right handed operation or even refined to suit the anatomy of the individuals own grip. Other possible modifications may include adjusting ballast and balance to ones personal needs or changing line release position. All models are shipped with the recommended setup but can be rigged according to a customer’s preference upon request. Changes can be made to such things such as power bands, shaft, line, cord and reel size.

Here at ARCUS we believe that our range of products will not only satisfy the needs of any fishing style but also the needs of every spearo, whether a new comer to the sport or an advanced hunter with years of experience. On top of that, any requested modifications to the construction of the gun and any changes from the default setup can only enhance the final product and ensure that you are getting the best possible gun for you!

“My passion for wooden constructions combined with my love for the sea, resulted not only with my first gun at the age of 17, but with the beautifully crafted gun you are holding today.” Dimitris Hatzirodos

CONTACT US FOR ARCUS G

ARCUS G

In designing the ARCUS G the emphasis was in keeping it as hydrodynamic as possible in respect to its needed mass and making sure it remained 100% distortion free even under maximum loads.

The hydrodynamic shape, the clear line of sight and its abundance of power will surely satisfy even the most demanding spearo. Upon request, the ARCUS G can be fitted with side-wings that improve its horizontal movement while at the same time reducing recoil even further. For more info tap here

CONTACT US FOR ARCUS G Light

ARCUS G Light

The hydrodynamic shape of the ARCUS G Light and its low profile make for a manoeuvrable gun with a very clean line of sight. The ARCUS G Light is manufactured using 4 laminates of Burmese teak which are bonded together using a special 2-component epoxy adhesive and an industrial hot press.

This ensures a quality bond eliminating any chance of distortion of the main body. The ARCUS G Light comes standard at 100 / 110 / 120cm or any length in between upon request. For more information tap here

CONTACT US FOR ARCUS ST

ARCUS ST

The ST is a roller gun like no other and its purpose is to offer the most power in the smallest package. The way the main body has been designed, places the power bands parallel both to themselves and to the shaft.

This has the advantage of delivering great line of sight, excellent buoyancy and pretty good side movements. The ARCUS ST comes standard at 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 / 110cm or any length in between upon request. For more information tap here

CONTACT US FOR ARCUS SL ferrule

ARCUS SL ferrule

The ARCUS SL comes in two flavours since what pleases one person may not please another. The slim shape of the ARCUS SL (ferrule), make for a very agile, manoeuvrable and powerful gun. The power bands are tied to the muzzle through a couple of vertically placed ferrules. The small loss of band stretch with tie in ferrule bands is minimal compared to what you gain.

Apart from the good aesthetics, the low profile of the bands when loaded make for a gun that is agile, manoeuvrable and silent when following fish plus offering a great line of sight. Also after the shot, the bands usually float vertical and are easy to grab for reloading. This is the ideal speargun suitable for both entry level and advanced spearo's. CONTACT US FOR ARCUS SL classic

ARCUS SL classic

The ARCUS SL comes in two flavours since what pleases one person may not please another. The ARCUS SL (classic) makes for a very agile, manoeuvrable and powerful gun. The power bands are fitted through classical band slots which is what separates it from its brother.

A choice of one or two pairs of bands can be fitted which when loaded are parallel to each other making the gun easy to manoeuvre under water and nearly noise free. This is an ideal speargun suitable for both entry level and advanced spearo's with a large range of rigging choices to complement every need. For more information tap here

FAQ

1. Determining the cost of a gun

The price for a bare gun (main body with trigger mechanism) is fixed but for a custom gun or a gun completely setup, the price fluctuates depending on work done and accessories added. For determining the cost of a gun, we need to consider the following:
The model: SL (classic), SL (ferrule), ST roller, G 125, G light
Gun length (eg 90cm)
Shaft type, tip style, pins vs fins (Heated SS or plain SS, tahitian or double flopper, pin or shark fins)
Shaft length & diameter (eg 120cm x 6,50mm)
Size of power bands (eg 1,7cm)
Size of reel (1-6)
Cord size (eg 1.5-1.8-2mm)

2. How do i choose the length of a gun?

The number that accompanies the name of any ARCUS gun has no relation to the overall stock length, but represents the “band pull”, the length of the power band when fully loaded. As an example, an ARCUS 90 is measured from the slot or ferule in the muzzle where the band starts all the way to the last shark fin on the shaft. This length represents the size of the gun and is how most euro guns are measured and advertised.

3. What materials are the guns made from?

All ARCUS guns are created entirely from Burmese teak. Depending on the model of the gun and its size, different amount (3-5) of laminates are used. In case you didn’t know its common knowledge that the best wood for spearguns is Burmese teak for its high resistance to flex or distortions and for its extremely long life.

4. How are the laminates bonded?

ARCUS uses a specifically made 2-part adhesive and all laminates are placed in an electricaly heated hot press for over 20 hours with attention given to temperature and pressure. This ensures the best possible bond between the teak laminates.

5. The handle:

The ergonomic handle can be ordered either for left or right handed operation or even refined to suit the anatomy of the individuals own grip. The handle is made out of a single piece of wood to fit all kinds of hands. It is bonded to the main body using a special 2-component epoxy adhesive and wedged into place. Both its shape and its high placement are such so as to place the hand as close as possible to the axis of the shaft resulting in the best mechanical resistance during the shot for the best control of recoil.

6. What shaft and power bands are used?

Even though each gun comes with its own stock setup as determined after testing by ARCUS, changes can be made to accommodate the special requirements for different styles of fishing and personal needs. Rigging changes include such things as power bands, shaft, line, cord and reel size.

7. Trigger mech & reel

All metal components found on an ARCUS speargun are manufactured by the well known “Meandros” company who specializes in the design and manufacturing of specialized components for underwater fishing and freediving. The trigger mechanism is specifically designed and manufactured for use on ARCUS spearguns. The trigger in all ARCUS spearguns is of the reverse type for a longer band pull plus are made with high ratio levers that ensure that trigger sensitivity is not affected when under heavy loads. All reels (Mitos Plus) are of the vertical type and come in 6 sizes so all needs are covered.
